The next-generation of SAP’s in-memory platform, SAP HANA 2.0, simplifies database and data management – and makes it easier for application developers to deliver smart, insight-driven apps.

The platform’s new capabilities are optimized for innovation and can help your business compete more effectively in the digital economy. And because SAP HANA 2.0 is a continuation of the existing platform, you’ll have access to a stable, highly available, and secure data environment for your applications.

Continuous innovation is a key component of our SAP HANA in-memory computing platform strategy. Uncover the new features and updates introduced in the latest service pack stacks (SPS) – and stay up-to-date with breaking news.

What is new?

SAP R/3, SAP ECC, SAP ERP, SAP HANA, S/4HANA, big data, migration, upgrade, performance increase, space savings on the hard disk, simulated monthly statement within 3 seconds... All these are keywords currently distributed by SAP all over the world. SAP is very eager to position their proprietary development, the database SAP HANA on the market and among the customers. S/4HANA was announce early February with lots of effort.

Many companies are now uncertain, which way SAP will take with their widespread software R/3 and ECC.

Is S/4HANA now really the same milestone in SAP's software history as it was the transition from R/2 to R/3?

The answer is both yes and no. The transition of R/2 to R/3 was also connected with a migration from the mainframe world to the new client-server-world. For the transition of R/3 to S/4HANA, at least from the technological point of view, such a giant step will not be taken. The change is more on the software-related.

The division into three has been cancelled!

The long-lasting paradigm of SAP with its threefold division into presentation layer (mere display of results), application layer (data processing) and database layer (persistent data storage layer) is softened by SAP HANA and especially on S/4HANA.

The database layer assumes essential parts of processing. Inside the database, procedural processing is allowed respectively required, the so-called code-push-down. The programming in the database can now replace large parts of the existing code in ABAP.

On the presentation layer, the conventional SAP GUI is no longer the only possibility to display data and results. At this side of the layer chain, finally, some web based tools have prevailed. SAP relies on the product Fiori at this end. This web-based display in form of tiles is then completely independent from the terminal device (PC, tablet or smartphone) and is the entry into processing of data by means or one or less key figures.

Today's existing products of SAP, like ERP 6.0, CRM, SCM and BL will be able to run on the SAP HANA database and will be subsequently developed on this basis..

Today's product range based on the databases like Oracle and MS SQL will only be maintained up to 2025, but will not be developed any further. All new developments and optimisations will only be made for products running on SAP HANA.

Thus, the future with SAP is in the SAP HANA database. We are able to assist you on the way there and also determine the perfect schedule for your transition. We have already successfully implemented projects to SAPA HANA and performed conceptual system tests on SAP HANA as well. The migrations we have done so far from SAP ERP 6.0 systems to SAP HANA are promising. We will further extend our know-how in this field and also regarding /4 HANA.
